‘Synaesthesia’ is a solo exhibition by artist Arron Hansford, exploring the boundaries and limitations of photography through installation, print and audio-visual artwork.
Testing the limitations of both the art world and the human mind, Arron explores the boundaries and transitions between two states. Working across various disciplines, the exhibition aims to create a discourse on the possibilities of particular artistic media, whilst simultaneously suggesting what may come next as these boundaries are pushed.
Arron Hansford is a visual and audio artist based in Manchester. Graduating with a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degree, his research is currently investigating the artistic limitations and collaborative boundaries of photography.

The work presented is an image from the series “father Please” its presence is a reflection of the breakdown in communication between a father and his son, desperate to be heard and to be seen the performance and resulting image has become a broadcast of the son’s situation, displayed in public for all to see.
The accompanying audio is the fallout from the image, the image deconstructed and made audible carries with it a significance in itself, as the image appears to be attempting to communicate with the audience on several sensory levels, the low audibility of the sound, is reminiscent of a struggle to communicate usually experienced by humans in dreams, a reflection also of the characters perceived inability to be heard and to effectively communicate.
The space in which the piece is installed has been used to create a sense of distance, the pillars exaggerate the size the space the used, but also as one approaches the images, the pillars build toward a sense of smaller space, creating an almost personal experience between the image and audience, the audio placed to the sides of the image, create a building but discreet crescendo of noise initiated by the viewers natural feelings of the need to approach the image, the images delicateness and therefore the fragility of the character and emotions at play within the image, can be broken when the projectors beam is disturbed, instilling a feeling of caution within the audience, the space has become a very delicate, and almost hallowed piece of ground.

Indecipherable to the human eye and brain, the image lies here, in its most vulnerable state, its construction open to the scrutiny of human judgement and the fleetingness of human imagination.

“These rocks were waiting for me, the grinding together of the two was cathartic, reminiscent of human bodies, the grinding of teeth, of old joints, thoughts of trepenation of the human skull”
Please Listen to the sound below through headphones

A recent change in environment has lead me to begin a study on the idea of community communication and the prevailing isolation experienced by some, constant messages travelling through the air unseen and unheard are given a place of significance in my upcoming film “If i have to go into myself, i may not survive” sound is best with headphones for the 1 minute teaser below.

Recently i have been experimenting with the sound that i have derived from my images from the series “Father Please”. I have been trying to create a sound that creates the impression of a broadcast, but also i wanted to create a sound that was more intriguing and interesting to listen to than the raw data i have extrapolated from the images, below is an example of sound from todays work, that i have created, the original morse code work is back within the audio, however i have decided to use only one statement within all the sound pieces, the “Father Please” statement in morse code will now be a stationary part within all the sound pieces, giving the impression that the broadcast of “Father Please” is permanent and ongoing.
